Heart of Love River, Kaohsiung, Taiwan (Sewerage Systems Office, Public Works Bureau, Kaohsiung City Government)
Heart of Love River, located at the intersection of Bo-ai World Games Avenue and Love River, is the boundary of the old and new downtowns of Kaohsiung City. In the adjacent areas, there are broad spaces for land consolidation and new municipal center that are expected to be developed. To make Heart of Love River the hinge that promotes prosperity, Sewerage Systems Office of Public Works Bureau, Kaohsiung City Government invited the architect, Mr. Ma-Long Chang, to be the designer.

Countless people have been attracted to enjoy this beautiful landmark of Kaohsiung City since Heart of Love River was completed and officially opened in March 2008.
The Project, “Tracing Upper Stream of Love River,” combined land transportation and the Blue Waterway, and integrated the functions of tourism, flood detention, and wetlands conservation. It is a great example of how urban rivers can be transformed.
Sunshine Bike Path, Kaohsiung Rapid Transit System, and Love River Cruise Boat are all joined here at Heart of Love River. The former narrow river course was expanded to be a Turning Basin and ecological pond, connected with Bike Path System of Lotus Pond by three overpasses The old vertical cement canal was replaced by dryly-laid stones and water accessible revetment. Now, the citizens have one more green corridor that coordinates river scenery, ecological conservation, culture, and wetlands.
In addition, the application of LED lights creates a healthy recreational space which is energy-saving and environmentally friendly. The lighting belt created by the three connected bridges, the fountain, and the reflected images of the lights make Heart of Love River one of the most splendid night scenes of Kaohsiung City.
