Greater Springfield, Queensland, Australia
Greater Springfield is quite simply the city that puts ‘master’ in master-planned community. The USD13.8 billion city has been designed to bring together the very best in business, ICT, education, health, retail and entertainment to a single location. Today, almost 20,000 people call Greater Springfield home with the population set to surpass Darwin’s by 2030. The city spans six suburbs, Brookwater, Springfield, Augustine Heights, Springfield Lakes, Spring Mountain and Springfield Central.
It’s clichéd but life does take on new meaning in Greater Springfield. Just minutes from the office is the award winning Greg Norman-designed Brookwater golf course. In addition, one-third of Greater Springfield is reserved for open space and parks, including a 24 hectares regional parklands located in Greater Springfield’s CBD. Shopping and entertainment options are unrivalled.
Greater Springfield will have the largest CBD (by land area) in Australia. Next to the city’s first high rise office is one of the most exciting technological developments in Australia; the Polaris Data Centre. This USD212 million development hosts mission-critical ICT systems of government departments and international companies as well as supporting Greater Springfield’s key infrastructure services. The city also boasts a privately funded dark fibre communications network between Brisbane and Greater Springfield – the first of its kind in Queensland.
There are currently six senior colleges and primary schools and seven childcare centres in Greater Springfield. So big is the emphasis on education, an 18 hectares precinct called Education City opened in 2006 and has over 3,000 students. This unique campus will eventually house up to 10,000 students. The USD78.3 million stage one includes a campus of the University of Southern Queensland and an abundance of other providers.
Linking with Education City is Springfield’s most exciting project ‘Health City Springfield’. When completed the 52 hectares Health City Springfield will be a comprehensive health and wellness precinct that will create a new approach to integrated community healthcare. Health experts around Australia are already hailing the development as the blueprint to fix Australia’s ailing health system.
